Andy: We can't seem to escape the rain, but we did manage to squeeze in three classic climbs before the rain returned this afternoon. Being the weekend, it was crowded compared to midweek, but it was fun to chat with all the people. Lots of folks from Jackson Hole (only a four hour drive). Climbed Batwings 5.8 ***, Skyline 5.8 ***, and Scream Cheese 5.9 **. And by 3pm the rain returned, so we hunkered down in the van and watched the Simpsons on DVD. An hour of Homer was more than enough, so we rallied and decided to head to the hot springs about 30 minutes away with another couple, Loren and Ann (from Vancouver, BC; they're on a 2 1/2 month climbing tour). Unfortunately, the hot springs were closed so our consolation prize was very, very, very bad Idaho Mexican food in Burley. We ordered Margaritas that lacked any hint of alcohol...... not surprising given our proximity to Salt Lake City.
I flushed our ottoman today. Actually, the ottoman is a porta-toilet that was supplied with the van. It comes with a nice leather cover, and we just use it as an foot stool in the van. But I was rudely reminded of its true purpose today -I shifted my feet and accidently flushed my foot stool. Made us both jump! One day we'll actually test out this thing....
Wendy: At Gus's Mexican Restaurant, you have to explicitly ask for alcohol when you want it in a drink. We unknowlingly ordered Margaritas, thinking we were getting ourselves a treat, only to find that we were drinking lemon/lime flavored slurpees. The Mex food was bad, but not that bad considering we are in the middle of the prairie. The climbing was awesome today, however, so that more than made up for the fact that we got rained out for yet another afternoon. Jen, I finished your book and loved it, and Paula, I'm halfway into yours. Cassie, I'm on to the Harry Potter series next...thank goodness for you guys, as your gifts make rainy afternoons go much faster!
