October 2nd - Ventura to Joshua Tree

Wendy:  After a relaxing breakfast with the Hobart Family, they were off to work and we were back on the road.  I think Ainsley was scaring Andy, but he did manage to hold the baby for a good 30-seconds, a record for him!  His mom should be proud, he didn't even come close to dropping her :)

We met up with Nancy, my college roommate, in Pasadena.  She too is pregnant, it seems my friends are dropping like flies from the free and unencumbered selfish life.  We have yet to make the move, but Nancy and Tanya are making it look fun.  For some reason I pictured Nancy (due December 13th) big and waddly, instead she was petite and feminine, looking svelte and confident in her maternity clothes.  We reminisced about college days, updated each other on our families and friends, and overall enjoyed each other's company.  I still have trouble believing that my college bud is about to burst forth with a kid...what is going on in this world of mine?

We arrived in Joshua Tree in time to sneak in a few climbs before dark.  Andy was hyper (too much root beer), and jumped on Hands Off, 5.8 crack.  Still not calm, he hurriedly scanned Hidden Valley for another climb...it was sunset and he was itching to keep climbing.  Much to my disdain, he insisted on Papa Woolsey, a 5.10b finger crimping face that eats my hands and spits them out every time I do it.  I begged.  I pleaded.  I whined.  It didn't work, Andy was just too amped to be back in Josh, and climb away we did.  It wasn't terrible, but my fingers did hurt at the end of the night and now Andy owes me one.

Ainsley, the newest Hobart.
