November 6th - Indian Creek, including the amazing, super duper, Supercrack!

Andy:  We're like addicts, we just can't keep away from Indian Creek. As everyone keeps telling us, there is no place else like Indian Creek in the world for such pure crack climbs.

Lots of great climbs today, including the famous "Supercrack of the Desert".  Bo, an Alaskan climber we've met, volunteered to lead the climb for us since I didn't have the guts...... :)

And what a crack it is!  I can honestly say it is the best 100 feet of climbing I've ever experienced.  Climbing it is almost like being in a trance, as the moves are unchanging for 100 feet.  Hand jam, hand jam, foot jam, foot jam, repeat 100 times.  Simply amazing.  It is about as pure as crack climbing can get.

What makes crack climbing so special?  When face climbing, the climber uses hand and foot holds offered by the edges on the rock to make upward progress.  When crack climbing there are no hand or foot holds, only the parallel sided crack, so the climber must use "jams" and other techniques of hand and foot placements in the crack to go up.

Indian Creek, and it goes on for miles like this!  Just one perfect crack after the next...  The dark buttress in the center is the Supercrack Buttress, the most popular destination in Indian Creek

Newspaper Rock petroglyphs - apparently a big news day.

Wendy leading Twin Cracks, with the sun just departing the face above her.

Bo cruising the amazing Supercrack - the most incredible 100' of crack climbing Wendy and I have ever experienced

Bo starting Supercrack

Andy, and his shadow, leading Keyhole Flakes

Andy, leading Chocolate Corner - desperate thin hand jams for me, but solid hand jams for Wendy (different sized hands creates a totally different climbing experience at Indian Creek)
