November 27th - Ecuador, Upper Misaualli (higher run)

Andy:   Wendy took today off, so Phil and Mary opted to start even higher on the Upper Mis, and it was an exciting day indeed.  New rapids for Steve and I, and the water was high, making for very, very pushy class IV rapids all day.  The run had our full attention :)

It started off with a bang when I flipped on the first rapid of the day (50 feet from the put-in) and conked my head pretty hard.  I called the maneuver a head boof.  My head was ringing for a few minutes after that stunt.  Note to self: don't flip when landing from boofs - particularly in 12 inches of water.

The first hour of the run had some tense moments for Steve and I as the rapids were endless, technical, and somewhat pushy.   As Steve commented as he peered over yet-another-horizon-line, "this run's got game".   yahoo!

Phil, showing us the line on Panel of Bozos rapid on the Upper Mis.  It's named this because of all the misadventures it delivers :)  Doesn't look like much from the photo, but it is pretty chunky once you're inside it.

Whenever we took off the river, the children swarmed us and immediately started playing with our gear!

The children also felt compelled to help and push our van up the hill!
