Andy: I know, let's go kayaking without the kayak! That's a good way to describe our day of canyoneering. In this bizarre sport, you jump, rappel, slide, swim, squirm, and do whatever else is required to descend VERY steep creeks. A fun day in an entirely new environment. Some of the jumps (40 feet into small, vertical walled pools) were pretty dang wild! Some slides we could even do head first (kids, don't try this at home).
Wendy: New Zealand is amazing. We were slipping and sliding all over moss covered rocks, rappeling down waterfalls, and jumping off the sides of cliffs, and we never signed a liability waver! It's like rock climbing without protection gear, across slippery rocks and under waterfalls. At one point the guide said, "Just lay down on your stomach and I'll hold your feet. Ok, now slip forward a little, I have your feet. When you go crashing down, make sure to protect your face." He was holding the boys by the feet so they could slide face first down a rock shoot! Needless to say I did that one on my butt! If only the U.S. was as adventurous...Andy and I wore our helmets and face masks for all the moms out there.
Lots of wet rappelling... That's a waterfall at Steve's feet!...

...and more wild slides. Keep your hands up!...

...and funky climbing moves. Ever wonder how you exit a river onto a moss covered rock? With a rope, of course!...

...and swimming after you jump off or slide...
