Andy: Repeated a section on the Kawarau river. Steve opted out of the run today, so we met up with a kiwi couple and paddled with them. This is a BIG river (Grand Canyon size, 10000 cfs), with lots of boils and whirlpools. The kiwi girl got sucked into a giant whirlpool and disappeared... when she reappeared she was out of her boat still swimming in the whirlpool. First time I ever witnessed someone get sucked into a whirlpool. Very impressive river feature :)
