Andy: We've kayaked without the kayak (canyoneering), we've kayaked without the water (Hollyford river), so today we tried kayaking without the whitewater - sea kayaking on Milford Sound. It wasn't high on the adrenalin factor, but very high on the on the scenic factor. 4000 foot granite walls rising above a perfectly quiet sea.
Wendy: Sea kayaking was a good index of Andy's short attention span. He and I were in a tandem kayak, so my actions affected him, and his affected me. We were on the water all of 2 minutes before Andy stopped paddling and said he was hungry. We stopped for a snack. Three minutes of paddling later, he wanted to take a picture. And three minutes after that he needed a drink of water. And so on and so forth. We couldn't figure out why our boat went so much slower than Steve and Sara's, but my secret theory is that we paddled less and floated more! We had more time to look at the seals, though, which was well worth it. One little guy let us paddle right up to him and watch as he held his back flippers with his front flippers, rubbing the back of his head in the water and snorting while we looked on in amusement.
It's a cliche, but these pictures (even panoramics) don't do the place
justice. It's Yosemite Valley, filled with water. The peaks
rise 4000

The seal floated on his back in circles with its feet in the air - just chilling
