Andy: Wow, salt water! Took a day off the river and hit the beach - kiwi style. If we could have ignored the snow capped peaks in the background, this place may well have been the California coast. Surfer boys, surfer girls, and beater cars completed the scene. Unfortunately, Wendy has come down with a nasty case of food poisoning - so she spent the day in the motel room.

Andy: Wendy continues to be sick, and she is ignoring my pleas for her to visit the doctor. We drive to the tip of the South Island and catch a ferry to the North Island. We're all very sad to be leaving the South Island, as we hear the North Island is very different - crowds and not as scenic.

Andy: Warm water, nice people, and a fantastic day at the world famous "Full James" surf wave. Wendy is still sick, sick, sick. She went to the doctor today, who is doing tests to figure out if it is giarrdia or food poisoning. We're hoping for the latter.
Wendy: I may be sick, but I was able to summon the energy to go to the hair salon and dye my hair black. Tired of the sun-streaked brown hair look, I'm now a sick lady who has black hair with violet streaks. I may be sick, but I'm a good lookin' sick.
