March 17 -3 Days of Heli-skiing with friends and family

Wendy: Awww, the Ruby mountains of eastern Nevada.  What a glorious place, and so few people even know they are there.  We introduced the Rubys to some more of our family and friends this year, as our yearly heli-ski trip grew to include Nick and Megan (Webshotters), Cassie and Renato (Wendy's friend from Modesto and her Webshotting boyfriend), Chris (Wendy's brother), and Katie (friend of friends), in addition to our regulars Craig (goofy and fun college friend) and Eric (Andy's uncle).  It's a little known fact that Nevada means white snow, and there is lots of it to be found in the Ruby mountains.

Part of the heli-ski package is 3 days lodging at the Ruby Mountain Heli-ski lodge (www.helicopterskiing.com).  There, you are served gourmet food in a beautiful setting overlooking the mountains.  You load into the helicopter each day from the lodge helipad, and then return there for relaxing evenings of music, food, and hanging out by the fire.  The whole thing is a family run operation, and the guides/owners are wonderfully friendly, generous, and fun.  The owner let me borrow his son's ski's, that's how nice they are!

The skiing was pretty good, only because it was very warm before we came, and they hadn't had much snow.  Winds and cloudy weather forced us to spend the first day Snowcat skiing, but it cleared and the next 2 days were spent flying around from peak to peak, skiing "variable" conditions through trees and open bowls.
